WORK • Thursday Routine

Neighborhood you live in: Hancock Park
It’s Thursday morning. What’s the scene at your workplace?
I try to stick to my morning routine pretty religiously, or else I fall off easily. I usually wake up around 6a and workout from 630-7. I got addicted to my Peloton during COVID, and I have a group chat that I send a routine the night before (which honestly is more for me than them). The big change was going from mostly the Peloton bike to the Peloton strength.
Then I walk one of my dogs, Daly, through Larchmont Village while listening to NPR News Now and The Daily. It’s exactly a two-mile walk which sets the tone for my day. Then I get back, make sure my daughter Sawyer is getting ready for school (which usually takes some extra prodding) and get myself ready for the day.
I get to the office around 9, and Thursday is the most hectic day of the week. My time is split between my entertainment company Hunting Lane and my digital media company Jamie’s List, but Thursday AM is newsletter day, so we are doing all the final tweaks for the newsletter which goes out at 11a. The scene overall at the office is always busy. We share a work space in Hollywood with the agencies Good Fear and Impression Entertainment, so lots of action and lots of people, which makes it really fun. I love being in an office with other people.
What’s on the agenda for today?
Right now we are heading towards the release of my new movie Roofman, so it’s the priority of the day. Then usually I start working on whatever else is on the film and TV slate. I’m also prepping for my Meet the Candidates podcast series where I interview dynamic politicians running for all levels of office.
Any restaurant plans today, tonight, this weekend?
Weeknights are usually when I go out to dinner (avoid weekends) I recently had an epic Thursday night, which I highly recommend everyone try. My friends Chris Bender, Mark Feurstein, Jeff Berman, and Jordan Okun and I walked from my house in Hancock Park (with my dog Daly of course) to Escuela for dinner at 5p. Post-dinner, Mark’s lovely wife Dana Klein was kind enough to pick Daly up as we walked to Rogue Machine to see one of their great plays. They’re doing some of the best work in the LA theater scene today. Post-show we walked from there to The Benjamin for a second meal, which basically consisted of splitting the best burger in LA and some dessert. It was the perfect night.
How about a little leisure or culture?
My favorite thing to do in LA right now without question is my Saturday walking art gallery tour. Ben Hundreds and I (and Daly) started doing this last year. Now it’s what I look forward to with him and with anyone else we can convince to join us. I recently recruited my buddy Neal Moritz, my brother Mark Patricof and his wife Martha, as well as some others. We start at the house and walk either up Highland down Santa Monica and then back down La Brea with a stop for a bite at Calabama. Sometimes we head over to Western and go to Zwirner, which is probably my favorite gallery in LA right now, and finish with a bite at Kuya Lord or Cafe Telegrama. I can’t encourage you enough to start walking around LA. Yes, there are some less than beautiful spots on this walk, but that’s city life.
Any weekend getaways?
Malibu is my happy place. We have been fortunate enough to have a house there for over a decade, and there are few things I enjoy more than heading down there. My weekends there consist of beach walks, stops at Thorne Family Farms and hikes. And of course, meals at Malibu Seafood, Lucky’s, and Howdy’s.
What was your last great vacation?
London, London, London. My wife was born there, and my kids have British passports, so we try to go at least once a year. We try to time our trip to late June early July, which in my opinion is the best time to be there for a handful of reasons. First, the weather is usually perfect. Second, Wimbledon is going on, my favorite sporting event. Sitting on the grass, watching tennis, drinking Pimms, and eating strawberries and cream is just a perfect afternoon.
Summer in London also means the BST concert series in Hyde Park, which is as good as it gets. I have seen everyone from SZA to Adele there over the past few years. There are some great hotels in London. Most recently we stayed at The Twenty Two, which is in a great location and has the best staff of any hotel in the world. We also stayed at a hotel in Belgravia called The Hari, which is a great lesser-known spot.
The food in London right now is firing on all cylinders. Indian is always the number one must for me when I’m there, from The Tamil Prince to Gymkhana to Amaya, there are so many incredible options. There’s also Em Sherif at Harrods and The Devonshire or Kiln, which are perfect meals before seeing a show in the West End.
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
I am a devout sauna and ice plunge guy. I have a crew I do it with a few days per week, and we just purchased a new Nordica Barrel Sauna.
What store or service do you always recommend?
Washos car wash service, I love a clean car. Not a fancy car — just clean.
Where are you donating your time or money?
There are obviously a ton of amazing organizations, but for me there’s only one that I consistently spend time and energy on: Baby2Baby. I’m obviously biased because my wife is co-CEO, but the work they do to help children and families is extraordinary.
