HELLO, DARLING: As the chef of Husk in Charleston, Sean Brock garnered widespread acclaim for bringing a new level of culinary talent and devotion to the foodways of the Low Country, his home region. But at his first West Coast restaurant, Darling, Brock is deviating from the norm, eschewing southern fare in favor of embracing live-fire cooking. The restaurant opened its doors last Sunday night in West Hollywood, on a lively stretch of Robertson Blvd.

Music, a Brock obsession, is at the center of Darling. A hi-fi listening lounge is set up directly across from the cocktail bar with curated vinyl records, including some from Brock’s personal collection. The lounge area under a retractable roof has an airy grandness that gives way to cozier seating in the back, where yellow booths line a wall underneath a massive work of art by Narsiso Martinez — the space is dazzling. Given Brock’s prowess and appreciation for local produce, we’re confident the menu will be, too. Reserve. –Heather Platt

(S)WOON-WORTHY: Longtime favorite for homestyle Chinese, Woon, is launching an all-new lunch menu at its Filipinotown location. Starting Sep 12, they’ll be open 11a-3p Friday through Sunday for midday offerings inspired by the lunch and brunch successes at their Pasadena spot. Normal dinner hours and service will continue from 5-930p. Reserve (for parties of 8 or more).
