WORK • Thursday Routine

ASHLEE MARGOLIS • founder • The A List
Neighborhood you work & live in: Beverly Hills
It’s Thursday morning. What’s the scene at your workplace?
The A List focuses on partnerships, campaigns, showroom gifting and dressing, and events, so I’m straddling meetings between all departments and current projects. We usually have appointments in the showroom right away: a mix of stylists, influencers, actors coming to pick out a mix of products for red carpets, junkets, street style and photo shoots. Last year we expanded into a fourth building next door, and a few months ago, acquired The Honeyman Agency. There will be stylists in there pulling for red carpet looks and my events team shares the space with them.
What’s on the agenda for today?
Today I have two appointments in the morning with actress friends in the showroom. During lunch, I am headed to LEORA down the street. It’s almost the only place I order from or eat out lately. Post-lunch I have a new business Zoom, followed by a meeting for an upcoming F1 Project.
Any restaurant plans today, tonight, this weekend?
On my weekend docket: lunch at San Vicente Bungalows, dinner at AVRA, and Soho House Malibu for brunch on Saturday or Sunday. It’s one of my favorite weekend spots. I also love Craig’s for dinner and Crossroads for vegan food, too.
How about a little leisure or culture?
I actually start Panchakarma this weekend at Surya Spa in Santa Monica. I’ve been doing Panchakarma for 15 years with Martha Sofer. When I started with her, she worked out of her house and now, 15 years later she has a staff of over 25, working at a stunning spa designed by Kelly Wearstler at the Proper. It’s a detox program, and a major reset for me.
Any weekend getaways?
Next weekend is Connecticut to visit my son at boarding school, the weekend after I’m taking my middle to ComplexCon in Vegas (my boys go crazy there), and we’ll also spend a weekend soon at The Ojai Valley Inn. We love it with our kids. The property has so much to offer, from golf to tennis to swimming, pottery, jewelry-making, and more. The food’s great and the boys can run around the property safely and freely.
What was your last great vacation?
Burning Man is my favorite time of year. It’s the greatest vacation of all time. I mean it’s hard work, but it’s the most freeing trip I take where I have no plans, no agenda, no schedule, and everything is completely spontaneous. Plus, I’m off my phone, detached from technology — there isn’t anything tha’s more freeing than that.
I also love being in Aspen in the summer. I love the casual nature of it and the healthy lifestyle. I bike and hike each morning, followed by Yoga at O2, into brunch at Spring Cafe or a possible sandwich at Grateful Deli. Dinner is at Nobu or the newly opened Sant Ambroeus.
What store or service do you always recommend?
Re-Grocery is amazing to get all your non-perishables plastic free. We go there every few weeks and refill all of our glass bottles with oils, soaps, dry foods, spices and more.
On the wellness side, I swear by Lisa Gainsley for lymphatic treatments and Iris Tanz at Fusion Healing for acupuncture.
Where are you donating your time or money?

Different beat
A luxury escape from the chaos of Downtown, the Conrad Spa offers contemporary treatments, next-level biohacking tech, exclusive skincare products, and a rooftop pool for a stress-relieving, rejuvenating fix.
Entry price: Massages and facials range from $255 to $564. The infrared sauna starts at $55 for 30 minutes, with wellness packages ranging from $320 to $700. Complimentary access to the hotel’s rooftop pool and fitness center is included with treatments of $200 or more. Memberships are available starting at $207/month.
What’s inside: On the 9th floor of the 28-story, Frank Gehry-designed Conrad Hotel, I started with a 30-minute Quantum Harmonic Therapy session to reset my nervous system through binaural beats on a vibro-acoustic wavetable — I was so relaxed that I quickly fell asleep, and had to be physically woken up for my next appointment. That was an indulgent 90-minute Intuitive Massage, followed by a medical-grade Stem Cell Exosome Facial, with its LED light therapy, microcurrents, a rose quartz crystal mask, cryotherapy, ultrasound therapy, and sonic lifting.
There’s also a transformative private recovery cabin outfitted with HigherDose infrared PEMF mat, NuCalm Recharge Sound Therapy, and Normatec Compression Therapy Boots.
Food: In the lounge, complimentary Qi whole flower teas and a selection of housemade snacks —like the freshly baked tomato rosemary biscuits I pocketed into my robe pocket for later — are available. Poolside, enjoy cocktails and light bites, including crab croquettes and gazpacho from Airlight, or snag a table at Chef José Andrés’ Spanish and Cali-inspired San Laurel, inside the hotel. –Deana Saukam

GETAWAYS • Laguna Beach
Laguna daze
It’s easy to miss Hotel Joaquin while cruising down the PCH. The discreet, 22-room hideaway still carries the charm of its 1940s roadside motel roots. Tucked just steps from Shaw’s Cove, it’s worlds away from the gigantic resorts of Laguna Beach. There’s no TV, no kids, and the cell reception gets spotty. It’s the kind of place where mornings start with coffee and tea left outside your door in a fishnet bag, and evenings end with a movie night in the garden or at the bar. On a recent Sunday, they were playing The Parent Trap; as a Nancy Meyers fan, I felt right at home.
Not all rooms are created equal: some are closer to the PCH, so you’ll want to book one of the ocean-facing options. The AURIC room has a small private balcony, and a zellige-tiled bathroom with a deep soaking tub. Each space is styled with midcentury furniture and comes with a record player, part of a 500-vinyl collection spread across the property.
Saline, the hotel’s breakfast and lunch spot, keeps things light with farm-fresh egg plates, fruit bowls, and the signature “rawnola” with blue majik. There’s no dinner service, but the Crystal Cove Shake Shack is about a 10-minute drive. Perched on a cliff with a sweeping ocean view, it’s a perfect stop for a cheeseburger before heading back to Hotel Joaquin for a nightcap. –Victoire Loup

Echo Park prima donna
Last weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to dine out in our neighborhood — Echo Park — without a reservation, just before 8p. It’d be chancey on any Saturday night, but especially on the first full week’s Saturday night of the new year.
We started at the always reliably great pizza joint, Grá. No dice. Next door, I noticed that Henrietta, the all-day kitchen, deli, and market from Chi Spacca alum Max Lesser, opened only two months ago, was also bustling.
